What the client needed
To open an innovative fitness centre in five months; to regenerate a run-down urban area in agreement with the city council; to build a strong identity locally.
What was done
Demolition and new build, services rebuilt from scratch, acoustic upgrading, bespoke finishes in every area. Within the agreed programme the run-down site became a fitness centre with high-end finishes, without neglecting the technical demands of this sector: floating screeds to damp floor vibration, scrupulous attention to air treatment for air quality and odour comfort, acoustic insulation so the neighbouring spaces are not disturbed.
Why it matters
It is a project that holds together three things that rarely go together: a hard commercial deadline, an agreement with a public authority and serious technical requirements (acoustics, vibration, air quality). Anyone assessing a deal looks at exactly this.
